We anticipated this place hotly but it’s one of our least favorites from the Thompson group, with a giant steel structure visually dominating Allen Street. The effect of a building too large for its surroundings is a bit like a mansion sorely out of balance with its bungalow neighbors. The incongruity aside, this property is decently modern with a high-floor lounge (Above Allen), but the ceiling was too low for us to feel relaxed.

Our favorite stops at GC include the Transit Museum Store and the subterranean mezzanine food hall, but our top scenario to wind away an hour is over a martini (Ketel, twist) at this lovely bar overlooking an afternoon’s worth of transportation logistics.
